Surrealism: Larger than Life
I have always loved the definition of Surreal Art, “Releasing the creative potential of the unconscious mind.” When I looked at the Surreal Masters like Dali, Joan Miro, and Picasso, I always wondered how my brain could wrap around the odd beauty of surreal art.
I realized collage art can create surrealism. One of my favorite past time is cutting and gluing images together to make strangeness and evocative art. That is when I started painting my collage creations.
In this class, Surrealism: Larger than Life, I share with you how using collage images can create an idea for a painting, and it can make you the storyteller that the world wants to listen to.
What Will You Learn
How to create a female figure transferring proportions using a Derwent Scale Divider.
To create underlaying textures, bold contrasts, and the power of lost edges.
How applying shadows create a 3-D visual to your art.
To develop a painting subject matter using your imagination with magazine images that are collaged together.
How to create striking atmospheric collage pages using a Geli Plate and red paint.
How to tell a story that challenges your reasoning by placing every day objects in unexpected locations, creating oversized focal points, and hidden messages in the details.
Art Tools Used
In this class you will stretch your skill by using art tools that may not be your everyday tool. I will show you that a Derwent Scale Divider is not something to be afraid of. We will use a palette knife to develop excitement in a boring background. Develop collage drama using a geli plate. And we will create texture using Foam Stamps. (Note: none of these tools are required to take this class.)
Story Telling
Your finished artwork will provide you with the skill to become a better story teller. In this class, our surreal figure who is larger than life is shouting to the world “Wake Up” regarding an endangered spices, the Black Rhinoceros.
You will be able to take the surreal skills learned in this class and develop your own story with captivating imagery.
